Jennifer Dowd is proud of Beacon Hill Park in Victoria, BC. There is good reason for her pride as this is a beautiful park with lots of things to do. In Let’s Explore Beacon Hill Park, Jennifer shares some of the many activities visitors can enjoy. From exploring nature to picnicking, Beacon Hill Park has it all. The wildlife is a virtual hodgepodge of variety. Of course, there are familiar creatures like frogs and turtles, but there are also more exotic animals like peacocks. In addition, Jennifer includes fun facts about the park. If you live in the Victoria area, this book can inspire you as you visit the park. Even if you don’t live near this park, share the book with your children, helping them understand the importance of open spaces. After reading this book, plan to visit a park near you.
Too often, children who live in the city have no clue about nature. Many have never seen an animal in its native habitat. They may see a few squirrels but never see a heron. Their house may be surrounded by concrete and they can’t enjoy the feeling of walking on grass barefooted. Most city planners realize that children need to experience nature. As a result, they built green spaces and parks within their city limits. Jennifer Dowd shares one such park in Let’s Explore Beacon Hill Park. This is an excellent example of what most city parks contain. Jennifer talks about the animals, but she also discusses the snack shop and the fountains that light up at night. Children can enjoy the animals and nature, but if they are into sports, there are also areas designated for this. Maybe this book will inspire a day of fun and exploration at a park near you.
