If the recent COVID-19 outbreak has taught us anything, it's how many people hold onto misconceptions about vaccines and struggle to comprehend their importance in our society. Let's Take A Shot! is a fun and educational picture book that seeks to teach young kids how vaccines work, their role in boosting our immune systems, and why they are necessary to prevent the spread of harmful germs and diseases. Adrian Lee and Megan Tran, with some colorful illustrations by Victoria Junmei, present two young siblings, Cole and his big sister Abby, as they are walking to the clinic to receive their vaccine. Cole remembers the pain the last vaccine shot caused to his arm and is hesitant to take the vaccine until Abby allays his fears by educating him on how vaccines work.
In this age of misinformation and propaganda, it has become more necessary than ever to teach our children the basic science and fundamentals of health care. Let's Take A Shot! from the MedExplorers series is a brilliantly crafted children's picture book that does this and more. Adrian Lee and Megan Tran tell an engaging story. The interactive and playful style of the narrative will appeal to children and keep them immersed in the pages. The wonderful illustrations by Victoria Junmei splash color onto the pages and bring the characters to life. I especially enjoyed how Abby explained the functionality of vaccines to her brother by likening them to defenders on a football field. Overall, an educational and informative children's read that I highly recommend.
