Lexie Leaps: A Help From My Friends Story by CA Martin is a short story about a woman named Lexie and her close friend Kat. After embarking on a cruise to catch up on the five years of separation, the two friends encounter a storm along the way. But it’s only a problem for Lexie, who has a life-threatening secret she doesn’t want to tell Kat. When the issue escalates, Lexie is filled with shame and Kat is flooded with mixed emotions, after a wild attempt to get to an island Lexie promised her grandmother she’d go to. From tugging at hearts relating to a bond of friendship we’ve all felt, CA Martin leads us on an adventure with a pinch of mystery and, in the end, crushes us all.
Lexie Leaps by CA Martin is a well put together short story. It hits all the points perfectly in the limited number of pages and the characters are formed nicely. The suspense isn’t rushed and neither is the story line as a whole. CA Martin does a great job at letting us feel the bond between Kat and Lexie and how important this catching-up, get-away cruise trip is. In Lexie Leaps, the intrigue of not knowing what Lexie’s secret is or what Lexie had sought on the island allows us to feel more connected to the characters and immersed in the story ourselves. The author did a fantastic job of keeping me on the edge of my seat, tears in my eyes, and longing for more.
I only have one complaint; why did the author take Lexie away so soon?
