Little Bear Betty by Betty Pasghetti is a charming picture book that brings children into a delightful woodsy world. This is the story of a little bear named Betty, who's having a little trouble saying the word ‘spaghetti.’ For whatever reason, it keeps coming out as ‘pasghetti,’ and she doesn’t know how to fix it. But with a kind word from a neighbor and friends, she gets help learning how to sound out syllables, and soon she’s able to surprise her family with something extra special. There’s also a bonus forest fact and coloring page at the end of the story for children to enjoy.
This book is perfect for young readers learning to read or speak, and is a story filled with heart, laughter, and charm. Betty Pasghetti provides tools that help with sounding out words and learning syllables. This is a lovely resource for children struggling with speech or mispronouncing words. The book has gentle humor, so it’s clear that the other characters aren’t making Little Bear Betty feel bad about how she mispronounces ‘spaghetti.' Instead, they offer support and help. Mr. Blandings, the turtle, gives her a handy trick for mastering syllables, and this gives her confidence with her speech. Through this lesson, children will also gain confidence in saying longer or tougher words. The story also pairs well with the illustrations of the characters and their woodland home. There’s a sweetness to these images by Sunkies Illustration in how expressive Betty and everyone is, especially with the joy and laughter you can see in each encounter.
