London Baby Wildlife by Lande Jewels is a pocket-sized book chock-full of nature observations, each in a one-page poem. From heron to hedgehog, Lande Jewels has created little gems of wisdom for families to enjoy. Though not particularly rhyming, the poems have a melodic quality. Science, British history, religion, animal behavior, and even symbolism are all included in this sweet collection. The book is specifically about the urban wildlife residing in London. In the poem "Robin," personification describes the bird and is reminiscent of Victorian London and postmen in red uniforms who were once called "Robins."

I loved Lande Jewels' poetry book London Baby Wildlife. This small book includes poems that are reflective, easy to understand, and honest. I was impressed with each animal species' ability to adapt to the change in climate or human "progress." With titles like swan, squirrel, and toad, each poem is a complete story. Therefore, the book can be read in one sitting or savored one treasure at a time. Every poem has a beautiful watercolor photo of an animal to accompany it. I have discovered the creatures that inhabit London's grasslands, glide upon its lakes, and perch upon its rafters and gargoyles. While reading the poems, I could not help but think of the Frog and Toad books by Arnold Lobel. Sometimes whimsical, London Baby Wildlife is more of a timeless non-fiction classic tale about the secret natural world that's hidden, but also in plain view. Lande Jewels has authored some big insights into some small wonders. I highly recommend you take a peek!
