Inspiring young readers to be a bit braver—especially at the dinner table—Luna's Magic: A Story About Trying New Foods by Lida Wyatt is a charming tale about embracing healthier eating habits with an open mind and curious taste buds. It begins by introducing readers to Luna, a sweet little witch whose birthday party includes her favorite foods, but they are pretty plain and predictable. After a back-and-forth about her favorite beige foods and the colorful suggestions from her friend, Cauldron, and listening to her other friends telling her how much healthier food choices will help them, she’s convinced to try some new foods. Then she experiences a magical food adventure of sorts, and quickly discovers that trying new, healthier foods can be a wonderful and enjoyable experience. This whimsical celebration comes to life through Moran Reudor's colorful and enchanting illustrations. With its positive message and encouragement to try foods, this book proves that even the pickiest eaters can find a little magic in something new.

Luna's Magic: A Story About Trying New Foods by Lida Wyatt gently encourages children who are hesitant to try new or healthy foods to take that brave first bite. It has just the right amount of magic and is written in an easy-to-follow way that is certain to keep children engaged. As a regular reader and an educator, I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I could easily see it being used during a nutrition or health week, sparking classroom and at-home discussions about food habits. Her friend, Cauldron, is her biggest cheerleader. He persuaded her to try new foods, demonstrating to readers the power of positive friendship—a concept that children can relate to, and my favorite theme in the story. This book is good for the mind, heart, and body. The illustrations are endearing, reminding me of books from when I was a child, and they perfectly match the playfulness, words, and message. Uplifting and fun, this story makes trying something new—maybe even broccoli—feel like a magical experience.

Luna’s Magic: A Story about Trying New Foods, written by Lida Wyatt and illustrated by Moran Reudor, is a delightful picture book. It’s Luna’s birthday and she’s so excited! She can’t wait to celebrate with her friends and cook all her favourite foods: pancakes, pasta and cheese, and fries. But Cauldron, her magical cooking pot, has other plans. Cauldron asks her to try something new for her birthday. While Luna wants pancakes, crackers with cheese, bread and butter, plain pasta with grated cheese, and chicken nuggets and fries, Cauldron turns her birthday dishes into something spectacular. Would Cauldron’s new dishes ruin her birthday party? Or is Luna about to learn the importance of courage and trying new things?

Luna’s Magic is educational. Kids will learn about change and trying new things. It may seem tough at first, but being brave enough to step out of one’s comfort zone is important. Children will also learn about healthy foods. All Luna wanted for her birthday were plain foods that she was used to, but Cauldron knew the importance of variety and nutritious foods. He introduced fruits and vegetables, turned crackers and cheese into colorful dips, bread and butter into a delicious sandwich, and plain pasta into something tasty and nutritious. Moran Reudor’s illustrations make this book exciting and fun for young readers with its vivid characters and side-by-side comparisons of Luna’s plain meals and Cauldron's colorful dishes. Lida Wyatt’s picture book is a delight for picky eaters and young readers.

Luna's Magic by Lida Wyatt is a children's book that addresses the challenging topic of encouraging children to try new foods, textures, and tastes. Luna is a little witch and has a birthday party coming up. She and her trusty little Cauldron are preparing snacks for the party, but the little Cauldron is concerned about Luna. She only eats bland, beige food like pasta and cheese, pancakes and sugar, chicken nuggets and fries. The Cauldron tries to entice Luna into trying fresh fruit, healthy sandwiches, and creamy dips for her crackers and fries. Luna gets upset when the Cauldron keeps on making food with vibrant colors and refreshing tastes, scared that her friends won't like the food. But when her friends - Pixie, Unicorn, and wizard - arrive, they are excited to see all the colorful and healthy snacks prepared for them. They even get Luna to try some of the food. Although she doesn't like some of the tastes, she discovers that trying new combinations of food can be fun.

Lida Wyatt has written a delightful story, filled with color and wonder, that addresses the common challenge all parents face: encouraging their children to adopt a varied and healthy diet rich in colorful fruits and vegetables. Children will identify with Luna, who only eats bland food. What I like about the story is that Luna, although she tries the new foods, likes some and dislikes others, which is a true reflection of real life. The layout smartly contrasts Luna's bland food with the Cauldron's colorful creations on opposite pages, engaging children visually and aurally. The rhyme flows smoothly, the vocabulary is child-friendly, and the fantasy illustrations by Moran Reudor add a magical backdrop that keeps young readers engaged. Luna's Magic is an engaging, imaginative read-aloud that entertains while also opening the door to healthy food conversations. For any little witches or wizards with picky palates, this book could be a magical addition to the bookshelf—or even the cookbook cupboard!
