Madison’s Peculiar Adventure by S.K. Bilguun is set against a magical backdrop and follows a group of orphans searching for a missing friend. Madam Eve runs the orphanage Madison calls home where she lives with her friends Wendy, Lena, and Amanda. When Wendy disappears, Madison becomes suspicious of Madam Eve and turns to her friends for help finding proof. Together, the friends stumble upon shocking secrets and clues that could lead to Wendy’s whereabouts but first, they’ll have to trust the word of a hobgoblin.
This chapter book is aimed at young readers with a fast pace that will keep children’s interest. Events happen quickly, introducing Madison and how she came to be at the orphanage at the beginning. Madison is a curious child and this is what has her seeking adventure and searching for Wendy when she goes missing. The mystery is a fun aspect of the story with Madison and her friends poking around for clues and even talking to witnesses. The interactions between the friends add an upbeat quality to the tone and lighten the grimness of the orphanage setting. Through their friendship, they’re able to build trust and support, something that each of them needs while facing this situation. Wendy is at the center of the mystery which is set up through the ominous rumors that she once used to be a chatterbox until something Madam Eve did. The plot is mixed with magic, creating a fantasy backdrop through creatures such as hobgoblins. Madison’s Peculiar Adventure by S.K. Bilguun is a fun children’s story that has magic, adventure, friendship, and mystery.
