In the book “Management by Steel Trap: A Project Management Framework,” Lakshmi Narayani parallels steel trapping with project management. 'The Management by Steel Trap (MBST) philosophy' may seem like an unorthodox teaching, but it is not. When you delve into the requisite mastery of steel trapping and the tenets of project management, you begin to understand the similarities. Like any good project manager, Narayani demonstrates the corresponding phases of both projects by breaking down the processes and illustrating concepts with flow charts. Both endeavors are highly orchestrated undertakings entailing precise methodologies and specific tools. Both projects employ military techniques and maneuvers used in warfare. This book is filled with lingo, tips and insider secrets.

Narayani’s project management expertise is evident in this book. She has a master’s degree in commerce and a 14-year background in information technology. I enjoyed this book because I have a general knowledge of project management. Narayani speaks in layman’s terms. But her detailed analysis helped me grasp the significance of particular actions. Two points of interest: a successful plan inherently includes steps to overcome potential setbacks, and a project manager must be an excellent communicator. She is a prolific writer. Her titles include “The Animal Names Alphabet Book,” “Software Testing – A Complete Handbook” and “Improve Your Wellness Quotient in 28 Days.” “Management by Steel Trap” is highly recommended for anyone with a project – students, volunteers, employees and managers.
