Along the way, Brian has performed as a stand-up comic, worked as a “McCountant,” and written award winning country songs for his band Family Reunion. He also contributes posts to the Richmond Children's Writers blog and Turnstyled Junkpiled Amerciana music blog.

Mars needs Ketchup! And they’re coming to take Earth's! Your mission (if you choose to accept) is to join the fight to save Earth’s most precious resource. But be warned, the Martians are trickier than they look – even if they do look like tiny mustaches! I loved the illustrations in Martian Mustache Mischief by Brian Rock. The pictures were very professional looking and reminded me of a Disney cartoon.

I also really appreciated that this book wasn't in rhyme. In this lovely read aloud adventure, the wording was really easy to read and made sense, but didn't talk down to kids or use big words they couldn't understand. The story felt very authentic.

I liked that the book wanted to include kids. Any time you can get kids excited to participate in a story is definitely the way to go! I can totally see myself reading this book to my niece and nephew and chanting Martian Mustache Mischief with them in the hopes of stopping the Martians! I also liked when that didn't work and we had to move on to the next step, turning the page to figure out what to do next. Genius!

Chodi Kid Books

MARTIAN MUSTACHE MISCHIEF by Brian Rock is 100% packed with imagination. Martians that love ketchup....didn't see that coming. This book does not pass on a lesson... it does not presume to teach anything....it is simply full of clever originality . And that could be a good thing as I believe children should be allowed to escape into a giggly world of whimsy as do adults. Illustrations are adorable. Warning: Your child may look at caterpillars in a different light.

I have to confess, this is my favorite children book in years. I had so much fun reading it and I laugh so hard, that it made me wish I were a child again, so I could enjoy it even more. The author’s humor is hilarious. The idea of Martians looking like mustaches gave to my extraterrestrial world a whole different identity. Not talking about illustrations. The illustrator, Joshua Dawson did an awesome job. All drawings are very expressive and give the book a particular charm. This book is indeed the perfect choice for you and your child, if you are looking for some fun time together.

Run for your lives! It’s an invasion of ketchup-eating, fuzzy caterpillars from Mars! But none of the townspeople take them seriously. So the wily creatures resort to drastic measures to satisfy their craving for ketchup and the Martian invasion turns into the invasion of the body snatchers. Joshua Dawson’s comical illustrations capture the bewilderment on the faces of the townspeople as they eat, sleep and breathe ketchup. Brian Rock entices young readers into the melee by giving them a tongue twister to shout at the woolly invaders. Can a tongue twister save Earth’s ketchup before the Martians devour it all? Martian Mustache Mischief! is an amusing tall tale that goes to astronomical heights to explain why Mars is called the red planet.
