Mastering Sin is the second book in Emily Stormbrook's Addicted to Sin series. After she was held for three months onboard a yacht by a sadistic man, Ivy Sinclair finally escapes. The man used BDSM tools and practices as torture to keep Ivy attached to him and satisfy his desires. Miles Taylor rushes to Ivy's side as soon as he learns she's been discovered, but he isn't prepared for the trauma ingrained into her every thought. To calm her battered mind, he must resort to a tactic he had never considered, but her response to his efforts encourages him. The man who abused Ivy isn't willing to release his "little pet" yet, though, and he uses his vast number of resources to find her.
Emily Stormbrook knows the right lines to cross, and she keeps her readers on the edge. The story is told from three perspectives, giving readers insight into the characters' private thoughts and explaining their actions. The romance in the story is a slow burn, and the connection between Ivy and Miles has plenty of steam. Stormbrook approaches the BDSM lifestyle like an experienced master, showing readers relevant information so they can be better informed. Stormbrook lets the suspense linger, and several times it surprised me when the story took a deeper turn. Even though I started with the second book, it was easy for me to follow the story as Stormbrook dropped details about the first book throughout this one. Mastering Sin is a great selection for readers who enjoy romance with sizzle and darker themes.
