Sofia Margaret and Meeda are excited. It's almost Christmas and it's time to decorate the family Christmas tree. Mom and Dad and baby brother, Caleb, are excited too. With hot chocolate and marshmallows to warm them, the family gets into the fun of decorating the tree, including Dad helping Sofia Margaret put the star on the top of the tree. It is a special family moment, one of caring and enjoying each other's company. Mom even starts them all dancing the Happy Christmas Tree Decorating Dance. With the tree finished and looking beautiful, of course, Sofia Margaret and Meeda look out at the cold, snow-covered landscape and wonder about Woozler, their grumpy, anti-social friend (of sorts) who lives underneath the family apple tree. They worry that Woozler must be cold. They worry that Santa will forget him on Christmas Eve. Then they decide to share the Christmas spirit with Woozler. They pack a bag full of warm clothes, make some cut-out decorations for his tree (which is just a green bush outside the hole to his cave) and they ask Mom for another mug of hot chocolate. They cart everything outside for Woozler and trick him into accepting the gifts, which he does rather grumpily. But he does appreciate the gifts and on Christmas morning he leaves a gift for the girls.
Merry Christmas, Woozler is another delightful Meeda and Me story that teaches young readers the real gift of Christmas. Sofia Margaret and Meeda continue to reach out to a grumpy Woozler, even though no one else considers him worthy of care and love. The girls prove the importance of giving and caring for others regardless of who and what they are. In this easy-to-read picture book story, Rhonda L. Paglia gives young readers another lesson in caring as well as teaching new words. There are activities at the end of the book to enhance the learning experience. A great book for young readers.
