Isaah Alford’s Milah’s Trip to the Magical Land follows young Milah as she goes on an unforgettable adventure with her parents. From the moment she dreams she saw a “Big Ear Mouse” fly, she and her family take a flight in October to a place that has a Halloween theme. Milah and her mom are all dressed up in matching outfits, while her dad packs her favorite fruit. She gets a pin with her name on it, and she has so much fun getting on rides like Sleepy Dreams, a Magic Carpet, and a Flying Elephant. Milah even sees a pretty mermaid and enjoys a clownfish rollercoaster ride. She savors a tasty meal of mac and cheese, rice, cornbread, and chicken at a place called Seven’s Kitchen, and marvels at the "Big Ear Mouse" dancing and the dazzling fireworks. Readers will be taken on an adventure with Milah that shows how travel, imagination, and love combine to create lifelong memories.
Reading Milah’s Trip to the Magical Land will make young readers feel like they are tagging along on Milah’s magical vacation. Isaah Alford writes with such simplicity that it mirrors the excitement of a child’s voice, while Evonna McIntosh’s illustrations capture the brightness of every single moment. It’s a celebration of family bonding and childlike wonder, much like the cozy journeys of Olivia Goes to Venice by Ian Falconer. Readers who enjoy picture books that blend travel, fantasy, and family love will find this book enchanting and relatable.
