In Mr. Snake's Secret, Eve Swanson tells the story of a forest wrapped in music. Used to the everyday symphony, everybody starts to worry when, one day, the music stops. Every animal gathers around the tree where Mrs. Bird lives, as she is the one who delights everyone with her singing. Once they see what is wrong, everyone is glad to help. Unfortunately, despite their good intentions, their help is not enough to solve Mrs. Bird's problem. Then Mr. Snake makes an appearance. Slithering through the forest, he approaches the tree. Every animal holds its breath. They fear what Mr. Snake might do. They don't know it yet, but he has an unusual secret. What is it?

Mr. Snake's Secret is outstanding for the intended age group in every way. The story is both entertaining and educational. It will teach children not to judge a book by its cover. The narration is rhythmic and musical. The story is inviting and enjoyable. I do not doubt that children will engage with it. The design is as suitable for younger readers as the story. The choice of the font is good. Numerous research has shown that the comic sans font boosts creativity. It is also the font of choice for those with dyslexia and ADHD as it is easier to read. The story is accompanied by Andrea Alemanno's incredible drawings. These are simple, so they don't overwhelm the reader. Yet they capture the essence of the story and make it easier to follow through. It is a wonderful book for young readers.
