Reading Murder and Mayhem in Tropic Gardens by Jon Michael Miller is like watching your favorite action-packed movie with a ruggedly handsome lead actor who can handle a gun. Alan, who had bought a condo at Tropic Gardens, led a quiet life with patterns of ordinary: riding his bike for exercise, minding his own business, writing, and enjoying the twice-monthly visits with a lovely escort, Joon. Soon, Alan’s life becomes far from ordinary. Thugs come out of the woodwork with revenge on their minds, shoot-outs and car bombs are the norm, detectives who seem to think Alan is responsible for all the mayhem, a past flame who wants to connect with him…was she out to get him too? Alan was determined to get to the bottom of whatever was happening, but every time he seemed to get one step ahead, BAM, he’d be shot at or he’d find himself running for his life. Murder and Mayhem in Tropic Gardens by Jon Michael Miller is the perfect story for those who love an engrossing suspense/thriller.
What I enjoyed about Murder and Mayhem in Tropic Gardens by Jon Michael Miller were all the characters. Miller did not waste his words on characters who did not have a vital role in the story. All the characters had a purpose. Thor, the cigar-smoking curmudgeon who sat in the lobby of Tropic Gardens was my favorite. I wondered why he was there and was totally surprised with his outcome. Madge, the president of the homeowner’s association, was characteristically annoying, Rudy “the rat” Rudisill, Nina, Charmaine, and even Mojo and Isabel, Alan’s cats, were great additions to the story. And of course, the detectives Stokes and Harris had unique personalities of their very own. Readers will have a thrilling time getting to know all the characters in Murder and Mayhem in Tropic Gardens and will enjoy puzzling out the exciting plots and mini-plots.
