After five years in prison for a murder he did not commit, Sam O’Brien though this was the happiest day of his life. Then reality set in and he discovered that even though he was innocent, he would be a murderer forever in the eyes of the public. The press was forever hounding him and now here is this woman at his door.
Annie Townsend’s mother is missing, she can’t find her brother Jimmy and the only way she knows to try and locate him is through Sam, who was in prison with him. She looks so downhearted and as much as he has no use for the cops or the press he vows to help Annie.
When her mother is found murdered, the plot thickens. There are several suspects who could have been the murderer, The horse trainer who sold her worthless horses, her husband who has been possibly having an affair, What about Annie’s brother Jimmy who has a drug problem. Only one problem who ever it is, is trying to set up Sam.
As emotions grow between Sam and Annie, neither one wants to let the other know how they feel. Annie is not sure if she can trust Sam Her Father and Jimmy are at her demanding she make him leave the house. Sam’s temper makes Annie wonder, could he commit murder? Sam has a lot of bitterness and anger in him that he is trying to control and Annie has trouble with getting depressed over difficult situations. The characters are saturated in pain and sadness.
This is an exciting mystery where the plot thickens with each turn of the page, with a climatic finish. If you love a good mystery then I highly recommend you pick up a copy of Nora LeDuc’s newest book” Murder Came Calling”. This looks to be a best seller in my mind.
