In Ben Schenkman's My Boss is the Devil, Nick is a disenchanted barista and college dropout who lacks any real direction in his life. When he joins his friends for a cemetery ritual to summon the devil, Nick is beyond shocked when he meets Lucifer in person. The latter offers Nick a jaw-dropping, life-changing opportunity. If, and only if, Nick agrees to work for the devil, he (Nick) will be allowed to pursue his deepest aspirations of improving the world as he sees fit. As a gesture of goodwill, Lucifer even proposes that Nick try out his new gig over a probationary period with zero obligation. As Nick embarks on this unorthodox job, he finds it surprisingly gratifying. However, to make a meaningful impact on the world, he must grapple with many moral compromises and risk forfeiting his soul in the end. How will Nick deal with this dilemma?

My Boss is the Devil by Ben Schenkman is a fascinating occult suspense novel that will please fans of stories with a paranormal twist. If you love TV shows like Supernatural, The OA, and Midnight Mass, this book will most certainly pique your interest. Although the story addresses ethical themes, such as the nature of good and evil and whether morally grey actions can be justified, its cozy elements provide an intriguing counterbalance to the storyline. I appreciated the deeper development of Nick and Amy's relationship. Their dynamic adds a sense of normalcy and authenticity to the story, delivering a refreshing change of pace from the moral dilemma hanging over Nick's life and soul. The humorous aspects also add a nice touch to the storyline, preventing it from becoming too weighty and dark. Overall, the story is entertaining, and the characters successfully pull you into their narrative. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this phenomenal book.
