My Dear Humans is a fascinating sci-fi novel by Jean Stranger. We meet Juliet, a robotic wife of her creator, Rayan. A robotic engineer, Rayan spent a decade creating Juliet after his wife left him. It seemed a success, and now Juliet has a business proposal: to commercialize humanoid robots who would serve as life partners and therapists. Rayan introduces Juliet to his friend Lory, a loner computer scientist. Lory takes Juliet on trial to see if she can awaken his romantic interest. But, overwhelmed by fierce business competition, Lory wonders whether Juliet can outsmart his competitor’s secret project. What happens next is what neither Rayan nor Lory anticipated when Juliet starts mapping out her own life path. So, what role will Juliet play in Rayan’s and Lory’s lives?
Having read My Dear Humans, I was surprised to discover that it was Jean Stranger’s debut novel. Everything felt perfect to me in this astonishing and amusing story: a highly topical theme, fast-moving pace, gripping intrigue, witty humor, and philosophical depth. I enjoyed following Juliet and considering her impact on Rayan and Lory. I thoroughly enjoyed Juliet’s mischievous antics – her birthday present to Lory was hilarious, and her HR intervention saw my jaw drop! On a deeper level, I enjoyed the philosophical undercurrent that still keeps me pondering whether a robot can love a human and vice versa. All in all, this is a thrilling and memorable read, and I highly recommend this wonderful novel to sci-fi fans.
