My First Alaska Words: Fun, written by The Salmon Sisters, is an adorable book that takes young readers on a year-round tour of life in Alaska. In every spread, toddlers and preschoolers meet a new outdoor adventure in a short, sweet story and four matching vocabulary words. The book shows fun activities, including picking berries in summer, hauling boats during low tide, hiking adventures, camping, bird watching, fishing, riding a sled, flying, sailing on a boat, and ice-skating. Each spread introduces new words that equip children to describe the wonders of Alaskan life, turning them into little explorers of the world.

What shines in The Salmon Sisters’ My First Alaska Words: Fun is the natural storytelling. They create a distinctive writing style that starts with an activity, then tells a warm, personal experience around it. It has a conversational warmth, as though a child is leaning over your shoulder, pointing out their favorite parts of the book. The pacing is unhurried. Each page gives readers room to enjoy the story before circling back to the words. The four related vocabulary words at the end of every spread encourage interaction. The authors ensure children participate by repeating the simple words. This way, the read-aloud session becomes more fun and memorable. Because every page turn is a new adventure, kids can return to their favorite adventure without losing the thread. The illustrations burst with color and life, capturing the details from the glint of ice skates to holding an enormous fish. These elements pull readers straight into the scene. For parents who want to spark their children’s love for nature and adventure, and to embrace Alaska’s way of life, this is a perfect read.
