She loves dark, twisted and flawed characters and stories. She watches way too much TV and reads perhaps too many (almost exclusively) mystery novels, convincing herself it's all work - research for her own stories.

She writes for as long as she can remember, and has three books published: "Mean: A Psychological Thriller Novelette", "My Sore Hush-a-Bye" and "Merge".

She's now working on a new novel called "Myself in Blue".

"My Sore Hush-a-Bye" by Renata F. Barcelos is the story of Camille, a teenager going to school for the first time in her life. She has lived with Uncle Bob since she was seven years old. She has come to depend on him and knows no other way of life. He showed her a note from her mother telling her to stay with Uncle Bob. Now, eight years later, she is attending school for the first time. At this point he is no longer interested in: she has grown up and is too old for his taste.

This book is difficult to summarize without giving away too much. Camille is the narrator, giving the reader a unique point of view. We are able to see the events through the eyes of the victim. "My Sore Hush-a-Bye" is disturbing; the subject matter is dark and perverse. Renata F. Barcelos is an amazingly talented writer; her style is simple and yet has depth. She drew me into this tale and had me eagerly turning the pages. This is not a long story and I easily read it in one sitting but it stayed with me for weeks. I was so wrapped up in this tale that I was afraid for Camille; I was afraid he would kill her. I was amazed that Uncle Bob was so brazen and oh, so sick. I wonder if this book was based on fact. The plot reminded me of the book "The Room." This tale should be a warning to parents and all guardians.
