My Three True Mates Trilogy: Book 1 Zavis by Freya Willoughby introduces us to Carmen, who is sixty years old when suddenly - as if by magic - she is once again younger; a mere 28 years old! She doesn't know what this means but she goes for it and leaves her current life behind, heading for New York City. While there, she meets Zavis, her true mate and leader of a vampire coven. The pair don't know they are the ones who will save humanity, and that their love will bring people together and save them from demons.

With a good thick book that I could sink my teeth into, Freya Willoughby has created a great world here with well fleshed out characters and a plot that you can follow. I truly enjoyed this story and the world that it created. I love a book that involves creatures and prophecy all in a nice package. Zavis is a well written character who has a lot of depth and a lot of things going on, but he still makes room for love. Carmen, well, I can't say I wouldn't run off for a new life if I woke up and found out I was young again! Well done to her and she may have waited a long time, but she found her true love which is admirable. This may be a fantasy story with a prophecy and many other creatures involved, but for me it was the romantic aspect that drew me in and made me fall in love with this book.

My Three True Mates Trilogy: Book 1, Zavis by Freya Willoughby is an epic tale of supernatural and fantastical proportions. Carmen has reached the age of sixty and, all of a sudden, finds herself back at the ripe and desirable age of 28 again. She looks and feels absolutely stunning, but hasn’t a clue why this has happened and who she is. Leaving her old life behind, she goes to New York City to start a new life and it is there that she meets the one true love of her life, Zavis. He is her mate, but neither of them has any idea that they are part of an ancient prophecy, one that describes their destiny – to save humanity and all other life, no matter what or who they are. Zavis is a vampire, the leader of a coven. Together with Carmen, they reach power beyond all that was imagined, beyond even that of the elders of the coven. But can they fulfill the contents of the prophecy? In order to unite all living beings, Carmen has to love three different men; otherwise demons will overrun the earth and all life will be lost.

My Three True Mates Trilogy: Book 1, Zavis by Freya Willoughby was a long book but I did manage to read it in a couple of days – mainly because it was one of those books that, although I wouldn’t describe it as exactly unputdownable, did kind of make you curious as to what was going to happen next. However, it is the kind of book that, if you do put it down and leave it for a couple of days, you might struggle to pick the story up again. That said, the penmanship was excellent; Freya has a real way with words and knows how to tell a tale. Good book, not sure I want to continue with the series though, although that is a personal choice not a reflection on the book itself.

My Three True Mates Trilogy: Book 1 Zavis by Freya Willoughby is part I of a trilogy in the fantasy/sci-fi genre with a good dose of romance. The book starts with Carmen, an older 60-something Cuban born woman raised in New York, who wakes up one day, looks at herself in the mirror, and finds out that she has been transformed into a gorgeous 20-something young woman. She then decides, with her brother Artie’s help, to change her identity for the time being, and with a new name and looks, ends up in New York City. Strange things start to happen and Carmen meets Zavis in NYC. They quickly realize that they are true mates after learning about the legend that predicts true mates will remain literally attached to each other for a month. What they do not know yet is the ancient prophecy that states Carmen must love not one, but three men to save the earth, unite its people, and save everyone from destruction. How this plays out makes up the plot of this book as we see the world through Carmen’s eyes.

This book starts off great, and the characters are well formed and well thought out. The book does tend to run a little bit on the long side, but that doesn’t take away from the readability of the story. Freya Willoughby has written a steamy romance novel, with a fantastical element that ties it all together. Overall, I thought the plot flowed nicely and kept moving at a steady pace, with new twists and turns. Overall, I would recommend this book to all romance lovers, or for anyone looking for a good book to take along on a long vacation.
