Food and good-looking men are not always a good mix. That’s what Nicola has to learn. But, right now, she’s obsessed with her passion for baking and the goal of winning the Northern Bake Off competition. And, she has her eye on the handsome TV presenter, David Chambers. Is he really flirting with her off the set? Or is he more interested in Nicola’s competition, a good-looking young teacher? Will it be the baking that makes the mark to announce the winner? Or the good looks? There’s another contender in the competition, Simon. He might not have the charm and looks of the TV presenter, and he may not have the wow ingredient to win the competition, but he knows what the true prize is.
Susan Willis’s novella Northern Bake Off: Will Nicola Beat Gemma? is an interesting twist on a romance. The best baker and the best-looking personalities are not always the best mix, but it certainly makes for a complex plot. The highly competitive nature of this Bake Off challenge has everyone on edge and nerves are somewhat frayed as tension builds with each new baking challenge. The wonders of the baking creations will certainly have readers' mouths watering. It’s a good thing some of the recipes in the Bake Off are included at the end of the book to allow readers to enjoy the food as well as the story. For those who like the combination of baking, competitions, and romance, Northern Bake Off is definitely a must-read.
