In Nursery Rhymes: 52 Interactive Children’s Songs and Fingerplays, Lauren Martin gives us a treasure trove of entertainment for little ones. The collection contains classic nursery rhymes and a variety of children’s songs, all with hand motions. The author has endeavored to give us all the verses of the songs, many of which I was unfamiliar with. The physical movements are simple and explained well for an adult to teach a child. It is up to the adult to decide if the movements are appropriate for the child since each child develops at a different pace.
I love that Lauren Martin has included a large variety of children’s songs in this collection. I have a new grandson and it has been many years since I have sung them. I had forgotten many of the songs. The hand movements are simple. As the child becomes familiar with the songs and watches the adult, they can begin to mimic the activity. The classic nursery rhymes are also included. Little Miss Muffet, Jack and Jill, and Old King Cole all make an appearance. My favorites among the songs are Down By The Bay, Where Is Thumbkin, and my childhood favorite, I'm A Little Teapot. I will enjoy teaching my grandson the songs and fingerplays in this book. I feel that Nursery Rhymes: 52 Interactive Children's Songs and Fingerplays would be a great book for preschoolers, grandparents, and parents. It provides a great way to interact with young children and keep them active.
