Nuts About Dinosaurs by Andrew Woolnough is a rhyming, lively, and creative children’s tale that celebrates curiosity, creativity, and cooperation. Readers will meet a group of inventive squirrels who love to dream big and tackle new challenges side by side. When their latest idea sets them off on an incredible exploration, they must rely on their wits, courage, and friendship to see it through. Their journey takes them to a fascinating place filled with surprises and discoveries from long ago, including some dinosaurs. Along the way, they work together to solve problems, face unexpected challenges, and find their way back home. With teamwork and resourcefulness guiding them, these small critters learn that even the boldest ideas can lead to amazing escapades when friends work as a team and use their imaginations. It’s nuts, it’s noisy, and it’s full of prehistoric creatures—what could be better?
As an educator, I have found that dinosaur stories always intrigue and delight children, and Nuts About Dinosaurs by Andrew Woolnough captures that magic perfectly. The rhyming text is sure to captivate young readers and help them enjoy the story. In a classroom, this book could spark discussions on dinosaurs, squirrels (or forest animals), and teamwork. It could also lead to follow-up activities, such as making a list of words that sound the same or drawing their favorite part of the book. The extra pages at the end, which offer fun facts about some dinosaurs, are engaging and informative, adding an educational layer that little ones will appreciate exploring. The illustrations by Justin Runfola use bright colors and expressive details to bring this playful adventure to life. Altogether, it’s not only a delightful story to share at school, full of entertainment, whimsy, and learning, but also an excellent addition to any home library.
