The stunning, renowned Kentucky horse farm, Lockwood Farm, is the setting for the romantic fiction, Once in a Blue Kentucky Moon (The Harrisons: Book One) by Alexa Bloom. Blake Harrison, with some support from his sister, is struggling to maintain the financial viability and prestige of the farm that flourished under his father’s supervision. Training racehorses is a challenging and ever changing business. Blake needs a winning horse to maintain the family legacy. A spunky, promising horse named Stargazer is purchased for the farm. Stargazer is delivered by Tatum O’Connor, who is as high-spirited as Stargazer. Soon she is the new stable hand on Lockwood Farm, but she has many secrets to hide. Other characters become part of the intriguing drama; some of these are supportive while others provide real threats to the survival of the farm.
Alexa Bloom presents realistic characters – both heartwarming and villainous – in her fiction novel, Once in a Blue Kentucky Moon (The Harrisons: Book One). The reader is swept up in the storyline, cheering on the reputable characters and hoping for defeat for the unsavory bullies. Romance is in the air, and Ms. Bloom develops obstacles, misunderstandings, and unspoken words to create the right amount of tension. The melding of the lack of certainty for the farm’s continuance, the improbability of having a winning horse, and the struggles of a potential romance are interwoven into an enjoyable read. The title of this novel indicates it is the first of a series, and it will be interesting to see how the story unfolds.
