“I cry because I want to still be a boy, not a guardian. I miss my life and I miss my home.” Pixies in Neverland are dying, and without someone to believe in them, Neverland would soon cease to exist. Tink is the only pixie who’s willing to find someone to save them, and she finds Peter. Author K.R. Thompson reignites the dearly loved classic children's tale through Pan, the first part from The Untold Stories of Neverland.

By heart, we know Peter Pan as the impish boy who can fly, never grows up and is forever having fun adventures with his gang, the Lost Boys. Thompson gives readers her melancholic rendition on how Pan came to be. Peter is a far more complex character, unlike his popular carefree version that most people know. The story has a darker and mature edge, where she reveals twists that we don’t expect to read in the classic tale. Some questions that you may have about Neverland will be answered.

Thompson’s vibrant, sometimes dreamy prose makes Pan, without a doubt, one of the most beautifully delivered versions of the classic tale. Readers can easily immerse themselves in a tale that is masterfully given a fresh perspective by Thompson. I was intrigued, surprised, entertained, and enlightened by this rendition. My only peeve is that it ended a bit too quickly, but Pan is such a remarkable tale that even its length is irrelevant. It’s a tale to be savored, a truly commendable work from Thompson. Pan’s destined adversary, Hook, is next in the series.
