Paragons of the New Moon by Marvin North continues the thrilling fantasy saga of The Last Battlefield for Light and Darkness. We’re with Kosinki on a perilous journey to Shaddoir. After the Black Lake's attack, Kosinki allies with a mysterious swordsman to challenge the Cyndicate's Elementalists, who hoard magic crystals and Corrupted ore. Facing beasts, pirates, and flying abominations, Kosinki is relentlessly pursued by the dead man Rayeen, determined to prevent Kosinki's powers from falling into the wrong hands. To succeed, Kosinki must endure the brutal trials of the Paragon's Path, confronting his darkest fears. This action-packed sequel weaves magic, adventure, and self-discovery into a captivating epic.
Author Marvin North has a fantastic balance of imagination and realistic description, which he utilizes to create a world filled with magic, mythical creatures, and perilous trials. Readers can dive into this adventurous atmosphere right from the cinematic opening, and the fast-paced plot is absolutely packed with thrilling battles and daring quests that put Kosinki to the test. There's a lot of space given to the close narration of Kosinki's thoughts and feelings so that we get a real sense of our hero's internal struggles and growth, and I liked the way this manifests in the dialogue and new skills learned along the way. There's a lot of conceptual originality too, which is hard to do in the fantasy genre where so many ideas are often reused, but the natural resources of the world itself are a great way to set up a lore that's believable for the setting and has potential for growth in future books in this world. Overall, Paragons of the New Moon is a fantastic read that I highly recommend, and I can't wait to see where the rest of the series takes us.
