Pennygirl's Rescue by Judy McGee is a heartwarming children's story about Penny, a lab mix hoping to find a new home. Penny loves her life on Grandma Adeline's farm, where she lives with her siblings and other animals. They spend their days playing together and gather in the evening for dinner and bedtime stories told by Grandma. One day, Grandma hurt her leg while using a ladder, and Penny sprang into action by calling Mr. Green for help. After that event, Penny had to leave her home and was sent to a dog shelter. Overwhelmed with sadness, she could not stop thinking about Grandma and the farm she grew up on. However, the staff at the shelter did their best to cheer her up. When she saw other dogs being adopted, like Lenny, Penny began to realize that there was still hope for her to find a new home and family. Through the Niagara Dog Rescue program, she eventually found her forever home.
Pennygirl’s Rescue is a beautiful story that celebrates pet rescue centers, the dedication of volunteers, and the incredible animals we consider family that bring us joy every day. Penny’s journey is an inspiration, highlighting the emotional struggles pets experience when they lose their homes and families. Any rescue pet owner will relate to the patience, compassion, and love needed to earn a pet’s trust and bring them happiness. The story is inspired by the real life of Judy McGee and her dog, Penny, adding a genuine and authentic touch to the narrative. Children will be entertained by Penny’s adventures and curious personality. The colorful illustrations by Warisha Khan perfectly complement the story and bring the characters to life. This narrative raises awareness about non-profits and animal rescue centers, teaching readers about the bravery and love animals show, as well as the importance of kindness and care toward them. Overall, this is a wonderful read for all animal lovers and anyone interested in stories about giving animals a second chance at happiness.
