Perceived Threat by Elisa Koopmans is an authentic mystery with suspicious characters, fear-filled moments and suspenseful intrigue. The main character, Annalisa Vermeers, is an author and speaker, gaining notoriety for her anti-establishment views. The problem is her target is the “establishment” of the legislative branch of the federal government. Annalisa boldly challenges Washington’s power elite by suggesting a government with no political parties or lobbyists, bringing the power back to the constituents. When her life is threatened, solid detective work is detailed. Every plausible lead is followed. Some unsavory behaviors seem to point to a few high-level Congressional Senators and Representatives. Annalisa’s loving relationship with her devoted journalist husband provides balance to the looming perils she is facing.

The many twists and turns, as well as compelling characters, create this exciting mystery novel. An added feature is the explanation of Annalisa’s views; it makes one consider the possibility of an entirely different governmental structure. Her views also provide the motivation to those leaders whose power and wealthy lifestyles could come tumbling down if her proposals came to fruition. Her husband’s journalistic involvements provide opportunities for her to mingle with the power elite – as well as the opportunity for a murderer to carry out his/her intention. Most of the story is told through narration. It would have been enjoyable to understand why Annalisa took such a strong stand against the government! That being said, this is a satisfying read.

Many of the characters had motive in this thriller. But the real intrigue is not how the characters are developed, but how, each in their own mind, perceives the threat of a different political philosophy. We all envision reality based on our own vulnerabilities, and this book speaks to that. Great read.

I love reading a good "whodunit" and if you do too, then this one is one for you. I liked the plot and the inside info on Washington. Ms. Koopmans knows how to make you wonder just who is the "whodunit." I'm an avid reader and have some favorite authors. Elisa Koopmans just now went on my "favorites list." Looking forward to hearing more from her.

Suggested to me by a friend. Nice story. Good read and ideas. Enjoyable. It was an engaging mystery that also highlighted aspects of the harms of government status quo. A must read for readers interested in the current political climate.
