Melinda wants to find the truth about her childhood, but the price may be more than she bargains for in Pleasantwick Falling by ML Stoughton. After barely escaping an epic battle between the peaceful witches and inhabitants of Pleasantwick and the rogues who want to expose their secret to the world, Melinda needs to go back to the magic town to find some answers about who she really is. Even though the portals between the Common and Magic Worlds have been sealed, Melinda manages to get through, only to find people grieving and trying to restore their homes and property. Unable to go back to her adopted parents in the Common World, Melinda is faced with a choice – learn what her true role in Pleasantwick is or leave the community incomplete and in danger. Studying all she can about the history of the witches’ haven, government, plants, spells, and even hand to hand fighting, Melinda prepares herself to take part in the life she was born into. Hopefully it is not too late to right the balance of magic and save the town and a way of life that has been going on for roughly 200 years.

Well written, exciting, and packed full of emotion, Pleasantwick Falling picks up right where volume one of the series left off. ML Stoughton has created a unique environment where witches live freely, hidden from the Common World, and the characters fill it with interesting stories and relationships. Love is a theme that runs throughout the story; between specific characters, but also for the community and nature. Pleasantwick Falling is a perfect story for upper Middle School and Young Adult readers who enjoy paranormal adventures. If Pleasantwick Falling is something you think you would like to read, you will certainly be quite pleased, but I strongly recommend starting with Pleasantwick so you can appreciate the full story of Melinda and Luke and how they come into their own in this special place. Great job by the author - a gripping and entertaining tale.
