Marek Kamiński’s Polaris takes readers into one of the harshest and most unforgiving environments on Earth. Mark and Robert, partners in the company Complexity Kills, have built a business that offers far more than extreme expeditions. It provides a gateway to self-discovery and a deeper understanding of nature. The wealthy and determined Leandro offers Mark and Robert $300,000 to take him and three others to the North Pole. During the preparations, the dangers of the journey are apparent. During training, Leandro experiences the terror of what it would feel like to fall into an icy crevasse. Leandro’s obsession with reaching the Pole only intensifies. Leandro was blinded by ambition and lost sight of everyone around him. Meanwhile, Mark is convinced that the Pole is sending warnings. To Mark, it felt as if the frozen wilderness itself did not wish to be conquered or discovered.

Polaris by Marek Kamiński is a story about survival and adventure. The characters felt realistic, and Mark was my favorite. Mark cares about the environment, while Leandro only wants to achieve his goal. The writing style was engaging and had more than enough action to keep my attention. It was a mix of people obsessing over their goals and people who respect the environment. The events were descriptive, and it was easy to lose myself in the beautiful and scary North Pole. The more I read, the more exciting the story became. The book was excellently written, and at times I felt cold as if I were there myself. I enjoyed reading the book and cannot stop thinking about everything that had happened.
