Quiet Reclamation is a riveting political thriller by Jared Swallow. Seventeen senators suddenly die in one month from mysterious causes. The last one is Congressman Jones, who suddenly collapses at his mansion. All the deaths are ruled natural causes, with different medical explanations. All of them are men – until, in a matter of days, the eighteenth senator dies: a woman. Five dead senators are Republicans; the rest are Democrats. The deaths do not follow a clear party pattern. Forty-one days earlier, they had all attended the same banquet in Washington, D.C. A top-secret government organization calls in FBI Agent Bartlett to find common evidence about these deaths and Dr. Gibson, their medical doctor, to re-examine the corpses of all eighteen dead senators. But will Agent Bartlett and Dr. Gibson solve these mysterious deaths?
What an immersive read! Jared Swallow’s Quiet Reclamation is one of the most suspenseful and fast-moving political thrillers I have read recently. I thoroughly enjoyed the blood-chilling intrigue and the narrative’s cinematic quality. I also liked the surprises that awaited me in every scene as the investigators were discovering new evidence. The moral dilemma Agent Bartlett encountered made me wonder how I would handle it in his place. The unexpected, spectacular, and thought-provoking ending is beyond praise. But most of all, I appreciated the deeper level at which this brilliant novel explored corruption, greed, and lust for power in political circles. All in all, I had not a single dull moment reading this novel. I highly recommend this satisfying read to political thriller fans.
