Predator and Prey is a short and gritty paranormal tale by James D. Horton, set in a city full of vampires and other creatures of the night. Lily, our main character, is a late night radio talk host, speaking to lonely hearts and solitary souls who find comfort in her words. It's a dangerous job though as she lives in a city full of savage night walkers who prey on the helpless. One day while leaving work, she meets a group of them face to face and, just when things seem to be at their absolute worst, she is saved by a mysterious man, Wolf. Strong, silent, and solitary, he nonetheless takes her in and helps her to see that she is not prey, and that she has within her the power to become the fiercest of predators.

Predator and Prey by James D. Horton is a quick read that grabs your attention and refuses to let go. We only get a glimpse of the world Horton created, but that glimpse is enough for us to see the gritty reality Lily lives in. Since it's so short, things happen a lot quicker than I expected. I felt that we don't really get a chance to learn much about the characters and situations before we've reached the last page and the story is over. This is a shame because Horton weaves a really intriguing tale around both Lily and Wolf, one that leaves me wanting to learn more about what's in store for them.
