Everleigh's princess, Emberline, was betrothed to Jonathan, ruler of Karis, to stave off war between the two kingdoms. When matters come to a head, Jonathan sends his most trusted knights, led by General Kaden, to collect his bride. Kaden feels something is off about this humble lady who claims to be the royal princess. What he does not know is that Emberline never made the trip, but instead, Marceline, a friend of the princess, has taken her place. As they return to Karis with their prize, Kaden and his fellow knights have no idea about the danger that lies between them and their destination. Their only savior might just be the quiet lady they are supposed to protect. Find out what happens next in Ashley Chapman's Princess of Illusion.

In Ashley Chapman's Princess of Illusion, the characters' origin stories are remarkably brief yet detailed. Chapman does a superb job of explaining how Marceline became the princess's double and how Kaden rose to power for Karis. The world-building has the same level of attention to detail, with Chapman emphasizing the delicate relationships between the kingdoms that make up Alegasia. The author draws inspiration from Scottish folklore when creating creatures whose detailed designs match their distinctive names, such as the Kelpies. The dialogue is a mix of old-world and contemporary English, with strategically placed Slavic, Russian, and French words, giving it a romantically authentic feel that epic fantasy purists will love. Chapman stylishly weaves these elements together, creating a riveting narrative that adventure and romance enthusiasts will enjoy.
