Princess of Wisdom is book two in the Wisdom Chronicles by Walter C. Conner, an electrifying epic fantasy. It has been four years since the confrontation between Wil and the Wizard of Wisdom. Now, elements of evil are amalgamating and floating towards the earth, corrupting anyone who comes into contact with it. Greyleige has unleashed an evil that could destroy the world and a patch of it opens a portal to its very source. There is only one person who can help defeat the darkness, Wil, but he is forbidden to leave the Old Forest. It’s interesting to see how Wil will handle this and the help that comes from unexpected places.
Princess of Wisdom is an excellent story in the fantasy genre, a tale involving magic on a grand scale and a love story that is equally enthralling. There is a lot that fans of fantasy will enjoy. First off, the writing is impeccable, laced with powerful and vivid descriptions. The characters are very compelling in an intoxicating kind of way, well rounded and solid. Walter C. Conner’s use of stream of consciousness technique helps to beef up the plot and deepen the conflict. It also offers a psychological depth to the story. For instance, this soliloquy is moving: “What do I say to the man I love after four long years? What do I do if my belief that he loves me as I do him turns out to be wrong? Either way, how am I to act… or react? Am I willing to let him kiss me right away? If not right away, when? And what then?”
I enjoyed every bit of this book, including characters like Wil, trapped in a difficult dilemma, the courageous princess, and the cunning wizard. Even minor characters are well sculpted. A really epic work of fantasy.
