Productivity-BIG Ideas From the Top 10 Books, by Oran Kangas, is a very useful book. It’s on the order of audio book summaries. Kangas transparently lays out his strategy for choosing the top 10 books, picks one idea from each book, gives pros and cons of each book, and then outlines the table of contents. It’s a unique and very helpful way to preview his top 10 picks in a category, in this case, productivity. While reading, I bookmarked several of his 10 to pick up and read in their entirety, as this is a subject I could improve in. Undergoing a sudden job change currently as well as caring for an aging parent, I frequently find myself with too much to do and not enough time.
Productivity-BIG Ideas From the Top 10 Books is written with humor and Kangas even pokes fun at himself from time to time. My favorite tip is number 9, from Time Warriors. In three minutes you can begin even the most procrastinated, the most scary, the most daunting task. In three minutes you can make a phone call or Google a question. Don’t have three minutes? What about when you’re waiting for something or someone? A doctor. Traffic. Hold time on the phone. I call the airlines frequently as well as cell phone companies and it takes several minutes to reach a live person through the automated system, during which time you can make a strategy list or Google something. Try it! It’s a tiny giant of a book.
