"What you think is the worst thing that can happen can become the best thing that ever happened in your life." Does this seem impossible to you? In his book “Pure Gold: Tried by Fire,” Barry Pelphrey shows that through the most horrible of situations God can step in, transform lives and bring Glory to Himself. Because of his wife’s addiction to painkillers, this pastor’s family hits rock bottom, with seemingly no place to go. And I am in awe of what this author says about their journey in this; “When Jesus allows you to be broken and transforms you from a religious, judgmental Pharisee into an intimate relationship with Him that allows you to see people through His eyes and His Heart. When Hope in Christ is all you can hang onto. 'But He knoweth the way that I take, when He hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.’ Job 23:10.”
This is a heart-changing book that I want to read and re-read over again. I appreciate author Barry Pelphrey pouring his heart out in this book so that readers can see what God can do to those who choose to trust Him completely. The beginning of the book is this pastor’s story, but then he uses devotions to teach us slowly about how to get to that full trust in God. I cannot even begin to tell you how awesome and helpful this book has been to me given the things I have been struggling with for a long time. I think anyone and everyone can benefit by reading “Pure Gold: Tried by Fire” and applying these devotions to their lives. The title says it all: pure gold is just what is between the covers of this book. And not to forget, I really like the eye-catching cover, drawing you to the book on store shelves. You are sure to appreciate and cling to this life-changing book.
