In Raised to Kill by Staci Troilo, Detective Holden Paxton is drawn into a dangerous investigation, arriving at the scene of a shocking accident. A prison transport lies on its side diagonally in the middle of the highway. It quickly becomes clear that this was no accident; it was a carefully planned escape disguised as a crash. Several prisoners are missing, others are dead, and one of the guards has also been killed. Holden is already under suspicion after being found covered in blood and standing over one of the prisoners. Holden and his partner, Cabe, must determine whether a dirty cop is involved. Meanwhile, they are investigating a growing wave of home burglaries, rising drug activity, and arson that keep them working around the clock.

Staci Troilo’s Raised to Kill: Paxton & Walsh Mysteries Book 2 is filled with suspense, complex characters, and the search for justice. Just returning from vacation, Holden Paxton has to prove his innocence, while Cabe will do anything to help and support his partner. The writing is engaging and had me hooked from start to finish. The story is fast-paced from the beginning but allows readers enough time to process everything. I could not turn the pages fast enough; I had to know what would happen next. I was so invested in the book that I could not put it down. It was brilliantly written, and I kept turning the pages as fast as I could. I enjoyed reading this book, and it has exceeded my expectations. I found myself rereading some sections.
