In Rebirth of the Gangster Act 2: What's Old is New by CJ Standal, the saga of the Thompson family continues. Marcus, the main character, continues to socialize with Hunter Anderson, whom we learn is the main antagonist. In the meantime, Hunter employs Dennis, the reluctant ex-convict, to take more incriminating photos of Marcus for blackmail. Hunter's mother Linda attends an anti-addiction program where she meets Ryan, who befriends her. In the latest in this comic book series, we learn that Dennis is conflicted because he feels strong emotions toward Lizzeth, who begins to suspect that he is doing something illegal. Marcus meets Dacara and they soon become romantically involved. Marcus was interviewed earlier for a new job and gets the position as the new lawyer for a civil rights firm, but turns it down. His co-worker gets confused and later alarmed by his erratic behavior.
Once again, I was impressed by this comic. The artwork by Juan Romera did not disappoint. It follows the same successful pattern as before and therefore continues to make its mark on the reader. The graphics carry the reader through each action. The scenes provide easily interpretable body language and facial expressions, while the dialogue boxes are easy to follow. Act 2 is a good follow-up from the first installment of this comic as I am beginning to see how the pieces fit together. Rebirth of the Gangster Act 2 by CJ Standal is noteworthy in its ability to be a good read and kept me hooked with each picture. Although printed in black and white, I can almost see the redness of the blood - that's the power of the brilliant graphics. I recommend this comic, but it would be best understood after reading the first installment in the series.
