ReSet is a thriller drama by Jesse Severson. Matthew Sterling has a lot of anger against the world. Expelled from medical school, Matthew starts working toward creating a pill that can eliminate any incurable disease on the planet. After a couple of missteps that lead to the deaths of innocent homeless men, Matthew finally achieves his lifelong dream and successfully creates a cure-all pill. Soon, he is thrust into the limelight, and everyone wants his pill. However, Matthew refuses to sell it openly and, instead, uses it as a bargaining chip over people with loved ones battling terminal health conditions. He becomes a multi-billionaire and uses his power and money to manipulate the masses. By now, even the other billionaires are envious of his success. And others have suffered due to Matthew's refusal to work for the greater good.
ReSet, at its core, is a psychological thriller that follows an unrepentant billionaire's rise and fall from grace. Author Jesse Severson infuses plenty of political intrigue and social commentary into an absorbing narrative that offers readers a glimpse into the psyche of a billionaire sociopath who thrives on chaos. Matthew is a complex man as an antagonist. As a reader, you find him very unlikable, yet there are aspects to his personality you can't help but relate with. Matthew using his pill as a bargaining chip against others to manipulate them is horrible, and there is no better example of that than his treatment of DeAnthony. But the ending shows that perhaps there was still a shred of humanity left in the man. All in all, this is a gripping character-driven tale. If you're into offbeat thriller stories, this will be right up your alley!
