Peter King’s The Power of God’s Grace is a Christian nonfiction book written from a Born Again Christian point of view. King presents Grace as the gift behind human life, beginning with God’s creation and continuing into the salvation he connects to Jesus Christ. The book is arranged in short devotional entries, with each one treating a part of Christian life as something that comes from Grace. King presents Jesus Christ as Savior, then describes the Holy Spirit as the guide for believers. Heaven is presented as the promised life for Born Again Christians after death. Personal testimony enters through King’s history with epilepsy and bowel cancer. His church life becomes part of the account, as Bible study groups and services form the way he understands faith. The book closes with God’s promises at Jesus Christ’s return.
Peter King’s The Power of God’s Grace is part memoir, part Christian testimony, and does such an excellent job of talking to readers about Grace, and how personal it is. As someone who has had cancer impact me directly, I connected most to the author as he spoke about his own journey. For example, King recalls being told that his life had been saved after bowel cancer, linking his gratitude to an actual event behind it. This extends to his history of epilepsy, and the faith that was amplified by four decades of seizures, and the absolute relief he describes after they stopped. It's clear from this book that King has done much research, but there's a remarkable amount of humility and patience there as well. The author writes about being taught through church services and house groups, but wanted to be ready and equipped before speaking to others about the Bible. Well written and inspiring, readers who enjoy direct Born Again Christian testimony will appreciate this book.
