Resurgere by David Christopher Perez introduces us to 22-year-old Daniel who thinks his life is perfect. He is smart, he believes in reasonable and science based explanations in life. However, when he loses the love of his life, Melinda, things start to happen. He sees images that scare him and then he begins to lose time as well. His parents help him but Daniel must struggle with these things, things he never thought of before. Is a demon attacking him personally or is he simply a person who has the ability to conjure up powerful visions?

I can honestly say that this thriller gave me chills as I was reading it. It has suspense and things that made me think as well. David Christopher Perez has a skill for being able to write a book that is both scary, suspenseful and fascinating. Daniel is an interesting character and watching his transformation from a young man who has everything together and feels he has it all sorted out to a man who is lost and trying to explain things is compelling. The writing has a good flow and knows how to carry you along as you read. Tension keeps you riveted and from the moment I picked this book up I had trouble putting it back down again. I didn’t see some of the plot points coming, and I like that. I like being interested as I am reading and being kept interested. I would recommend this book by David Christopher Perez and look forward to reading more of his work.

Resurgere by David C. Perez is an enjoyable fiction suspense story, written about protagonist Daniel, a college engineering student, who is obsessed with his perfect pre-med girlfriend, Melinda. The story chronicles his inexperience with women, which is tied to his tenuous relationship with his mother. A child of divorce, Daniel has unresolved feelings of resentment towards both parents. These suppressed emotions take on a life of their own as the young couple grows further apart, ultimately leading to the denial of their break-up. The negative energy manifests into a malicious demon with Daniel’s help as an Incarnator. It is only after tragedy strikes that he starts to face the truth about his birth right and strange abilities. Refusing to face reality puts those he loves in harm’s way, as well as his own personal safety and health. Daniel struggles to make sense of inexplicable events using an analytical mind leaning on science versus a creator for salvation.

David C. Perez uses his extensive knowledge of descriptive words as a device to paint graphic images of grim horror, laced with lyrical literary poetry. In Resurgere, Perez uses first person from Daniel’s matter-of-fact point of view to animate the various characters' bizarre lives. The male perspective of the terrors of dating was very amusing. The suspenseful story plot moves along rapidly as tension builds to a final showdown of Daniel fighting for his sanity. Dispersed throughout are a few mild sexual encounters and frolics with decomposing corpses that will surely entertain. What is fact and fiction is clouded in a spine-ripping conclusion with Melinda at the center.

Resurgere by David Christopher Perez is a spine-chilling story of suspense, intrigue and horror that will terrify readers with its plot. Daniel is an intelligent twenty-two-year old who thinks his life is perfect. But his life takes an unusual turn when he loses his lover, Melinda. Strange things begin to happen to him after that and he begins to see scary images of people that haunt and terrify him. He also finds himself having memory lapses. His parents try to help him with his problems but then he is not sure whether to believe their logical explanations. Does Daniel possess a unique gift of conjuring up images from his fears? Or is he slowly going crazy with all the weird visions that torment him?

‘It wants to kill me, Danny. And it’s coming after you next.’ Melinda’s two-line note next to her dead body sets the tone for the terror that is to follow in the plot. The story is gripping with a lot of horror and intrigue that will surprise readers. The initial romantic interlude between Melinda and Daniel is the only light side of the story. It takes a serious turn with the death of Melinda. The dialogues are descriptive and all the characters are portrayed well, giving the story an ominous feel. The horror, intrigue and suspense have been built up very well by the author, making it a compelling read. The book concludes with a surprise ending which is unexpected and unusual.
