Retail Stole My Life: The Bitter Rants Of A Supermarket Worker is author Rob Gonzo’s humorous account of his experience working in the retail industry. At seventeen years old, he is presented by his stepfather with the application form for a job in the local supermarket. Feeling that he has no choice, the young boy reluctantly applies for a job that will shape his life for years to come. He gets the job and will eventually get out of the retail industry to write about his experiences during the difficult first week, meeting all kinds of customers and simply surviving in what seems like a boring and thankless career. The result is a book that lets you get away with murder, figuratively speaking, if you happen to work in the retail industry yourself.
Entertaining and at times hilarious, Retail Stole My Life: The Bitter Rants Of A Supermarket Worker will make us look at the workers in the retail industry in a different light. Rob Gonzo spent enough time as a retail worker and certainly knows what he is talking about. This is a book that is both funny and sad. A young man is seemingly trapped in a job that he does not like. Finally able to escape from retail, he looks back at his experience with a sense of humor that borders on the ridiculous. This book is designed to help and warn those who are contemplating a career in the supermarket from someone who has been there and done that and it is quite an enjoyable read!
