A curious bunny, Riley, discovers the delicious treasures of Grandma’s magical garden. He savors the carrots and other fresh produce and the joy of being able to sneak in and help himself when Grandma is not watching. In Laura Shouse’s Riley’s Magical Garden Adventure, Grandma teaches Riley valuable lessons about caring, sharing, and kindness. “This garden is for everyone. We must share and care for it together to stay wonderful and full of life.” All Riley needed to visit Grandma’s garden was a kind heart. Once he pitched in, he enjoyed the fruits of his labor much more than when he was just helping himself. And, he made some new friends and the adventure he began when he was sneaking around the garden became an even better and more fruitful adventure.
Laura Shouse’s picture book, Riley’s Magical Garden Adventure, reads like one of Beatrix Potter’s classic Peter Rabbit stories. The story is told in simple language, soothing for both the reader and the young listener as the plot thickens around this curious and adventurous little bunny. The characters are well-developed and believable, and the theme of kindness is evident. Riley and his new friends savor the power of friendship as they learn that by caring for one another, they are creating a positive impact on the world as well as one another. Gentle kindness goes a long way to making everyone's lives so much better. The illustrations are bright, bold, and colorful and will remind readers of Beatrix Potter’s books.
