Rise is the second book in the Elemental Warriors series by Joanna Morgan and Mystic Owl. Ajax was an air elemental that was supposed to be sterile. He had a one-night stand with Emory but was upfront that they would only have one night together. Weeks later, Emory discovered that she was pregnant. She gave birth to Jackson, who exhibited strange abilities. She contacts Ajax, and he realizes that Jackson is a sleeper the Chaolts could use to harm others. Ajax knew that he was facing a death sentence if anyone discovered Jackson, but he couldn’t leave them unprotected. When Walker discovered that Ajax had shirked his duties, he insisted on Ajax helping with a dangerous mission. Torn emotionally, would Ajax choose duty to the world over Jackson? How long could he keep Emory and Jackson a secret?

I understood that Jackson was a sleeper who had no control over his powers. Ajax was supposed to eliminate any sleepers to prevent the Chaolts from using them as self-destructing bombs. Facing death if his son’s existence was revealed to Walker or his son’s death if he didn't protect Jackson was a major conflict. I don’t know how a parent could make such a decision. Emory’s devotion to caring for their child on her own was admirable. The descriptions provided for every character were exceptional. I could envision the air manipulation in vivid detail. The unpredictable plot was engaging. The alternating perspectives between Emory and Ajax were clear and easy to follow. Using realistic issues combined with a paranormal hero makes Rise a unique book. Readers who enjoy fantasy romance stories with relatable conflict will find this work by Joanna Morgan and Mystic Owl very appealing.

This story really captured me with its mix of romance, family, and danger. Emory and Ajax’s connection is intense and believable, and I liked how the story balanced the magical elements with real emotional stakes. The baby plotline added a touching layer to their journey, making the romance feel deeper than just sparks and attraction.

I enjoyed how the book blends paranormal powers with a story about second chances. The action scenes were exciting, but what stood out most were the character moments—the fear, hope, and love that drive Emory and Ajax. It’s a story that keeps you invested in both their romance and the challenges they face together.

Rise is full of heart and tension. The way Emory searches for Ajax while discovering the truth about her child added real emotional weight. I liked that the story isn’t just about magical battles, but about family, trust, and facing the unexpected. It’s a well-paced romance with plenty of surprises.

The elemental powers and paranormal world-building were fascinating, but the heart of the story is really the romance and personal growth. I appreciated how the characters had to confront both external threats and internal doubts. By the end, I felt satisfied with their journey and their second chance at love.

Laura Bennett

This book blends danger, magic, and romance beautifully. Emory and Ajax are compelling together, and the story balances tender moments with action-packed conflict. I loved how their love grows naturally through challenges, making the story feel emotional and rewarding.
