What do you do when a much larger foe attacks you? You run far away fast! That is what the little ant Rosa and all her ant friends did when a great big elephant destroyed their home. Rosa the Little Ant and the Great Big Elephant by Dainty Nix tells the story of Rosa and her friends. Rosa and her friends built a new home in an acacia tree, and Rosa declared that such a tragedy would never happen to them again. Every day, she would exercise in preparation for any attack in the future. One day, the giant elephant came to eat from the acacia tree where Rosa's new home was situated. She was ready. She had a plan and put it into action. Read this exciting story to learn how Rosa overcame the odds and won the day.

Most children have never seen the word "onomatopoeia," and even fewer know what it means. However, Dainty Nix uses onomatopoeia to great advantage in her children's picture book Rosa the Little Ant and the Great Big Elephant. This is a lovely book to share with your child about overcoming seemingly insurmountable odds. Can you imagine a little ant taking on a giant elephant? Obviously, the elephant will win. But will it? Read this book with your child to discover how clever Rosa was, and then discuss with your child things they should do if they feel attacked or bullied. Explain to your child who they can ask for help. Teach your child to break large obstacles down into smaller, more manageable projects. This book is a fun read for your child but can lead to conversations that will protect them throughout their life.
