When music conductor Maestro Leigh-Winter failed to remember that the national anthem should be played upon the arrival of the monarch, he was dismissed. Robin Landour takes his place in the symphony orchestra as Master of Music and is tasked with converting an underpaid and disorientated ensemble into a fine orchestra and, in the process, saves the opera house from bankruptcy. The king has commanded a special performance of The Sleeping Beauty at the opera house with a full orchestra. The players are finding the transition from classical to contemporary music more difficult than expected. Despite being faced with many challenges, Robin uses all his knowledge and skills to succeed in producing not only a superb music concert but also ballet and opera performances. Author Alexander Jonathan Diack has surpassed all expectations in his novel Royal Podium.

Royal Podium is a delightful, intriguing story filled with challenges for Robin and his team including LeBreg, Signor Soprianti and Valentino. Alexander Jonathan Diack describes the locations and scenes beautifully both inside the opera house and out in the surrounding areas. The story is smooth flowing and comfortable to read with a few twists and surprises along the way. Royal Podium is an eye-opener and I thoroughly enjoyed learning about classical music, ballet, opera and the complicated, difficult and challenging role of a conductor and Master of Music. This story really is an education and entertaining. Royal Podium is a fantastic novel, well researched and well written. Highly recommended to young and old, an absolute classic.
