Roy’s Stethoscope: Listening To the Music of the Heart by Dr Aviv Hirschenbein, a beautifully illustrated children’s book, was inspired by Dr. Aviv’s son, Roy. One day Roy discovered a stethoscope in a drawer and wanted to know more about it. As the story unfolds, Roy was sick, he wasn't his usual self. So he was taken to his pediatric physician, Dr. Joy. As Dr. Joy began to examine Roy, to check his heart and his organs, she pulled out a stethoscope. A stethoscope allows the doctor to hear the beat of the heart and the fluidity of the organs. In reading Roy’s Stethoscope: Listening To the Music of the Heart, children will not only enjoy looking at the colorful pictures, but they will learn a lot about the mechanics of a stethoscope and its usefulness to the well being of the body.
Any time there is an educational tool or book to help a child learn and grow, I love it. Roy’s Stethoscope: Listening To the Music of the Heart is that kind of book. As the child begins to read and explore each colorful page, they will embark upon a whole new world, learning not only about the body but the fundamentals of the stethoscope. Dr. Aviv goes into great, yet simple detail in explaining the mechanics and functionality of the parts that make up a stethoscope and how it is used so that even a child can appreciate it. I would like to see more educational books like this. If you are interested in opening up a whole new world to your child, get a copy of Roy’s Stethoscope: Listening To the Music of the Heart by Dr Aviv Hirschenbein with illustrations by Moti Berkovich.
