In Ruby's Christmas Gifts by Nancy Oswald, Ruby is expecting a big Christmas Eve surprise, and as she waits for the surprise she goes stargazing, one of her favorite things to do. But her donkey, Maude, lets Ruby know her foal is missing, so they take off on a journey to find Willie. They happen upon many interesting people in need and Ruby is willing to help each of them. As Ruby searches for Willie, she finds a very happy surprise herself. Her best Christmas present of all. Will Ruby and Maude find Willie before something happens to him?

This is a special Christmas story, and I love the setting in Cripple Creek, Colorado. I couldn't help but fall in love with this sweet character, Ruby. Nancy Oswald writes a beautiful story of love and the caring and giving of an eleven-year-old child. A story that shows what the real meaning of Christmas is all about. Nathaniel Jensen does a fantastic job with the illustrations in this book. I love that they have a historical look and feel. The colors on each page are so beautiful. The illustrations and the story work together so well that it makes reading Ruby's story even more enjoyable. I have read this story several times and I will be reading Ruby's Christmas Gifts by Nancy Oswald to some of my family during the Christmas holidays. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting a really nice Christmas story that you and your child won't forget. I loved Ruby's story so much and I hope you will as well. And where was Willie? You must read Ruby's Christmas Gifts to find out!
