Run to You by Lynne King is a breathless thriller that is as absorbing as it is entertaining. Yes, it is the quintessence of a real thriller. Moving to Manhattan from London has seemed the best way for Liz to leave her past behind. Just being betrayed by someone who claimed to love her, she could not live in her hometown with the troubling memories. Now working with a temporary visa and at a time when she thinks she is getting over the heartbreak, it is then that a suave and seductive Irishman, Shaun, captures her heart. She believes and trusts in him, only to find out that it could be too late — the smooth talking, sweet and charming man is a monster, a cold-blooded murderer. She may not only have witnessed a murder, but could also become a victim. Who can she run to, away in a far off foreign land?
Lynne King has won my heart with this story, creating a plot that is gripping, with characters that are hard to let out of sight. I enjoyed the way the author developed Liz, the perfect example of a gullible woman, but who can blame a woman with a broken heart? The twists are awesome, and the reader is taken by surprise. Jack, the detective with the NYPD, is another gorgeous character, but the one who was perfectly crafted was the villain, the killer, and it was thrilling to watch his manipulative skills unfold. The writing is crisp and enticing, and the author doesn’t go into unnecessary detail. Readers will love how King explores the emotions of the reader and how the tension builds up, like a growing volcano, into a satisfying denouement. Run to You is a brilliant story with a surprising twist and many a “wow” moment.
