In the playful holiday picture book Santa Loves Snow Cones, author Ben Okon flips the script on what we all thought we knew about Saint Nick’s favorite snacks. The story reveals that even though everyone leaves out cookies, what Santa actually craves is a plain snow cone. There is a catch, though—they have to be totally dye-free because Santa is a huge stickler for keeping his famous white suit and beard looking perfect. Using really catchy, rhyming verses, the book walks kids through how to prepare the ultimate icy treat while hiding all the colorful, sticky syrups in a "Naughty Bag" just in time for the big arrival. With some great artwork by Komal Sharma, it follows the final countdown to Christmas Eve, showing how a simple snack might just be the best way to stay on the "nice list."
The way Ben Okon takes a tradition and turns it into something so funny in Santa Loves Snow Cones is just a breath of fresh air for December reading. This holiday book manages to be genuinely silly while keeping up a fast-paced, bouncy rhyme so that kids will actually want to yell out loud. The "Naughty Bag" idea is brilliant—it’s such a clever, interactive little touch that makes the reader feel like they’re part of a secret club with Santa. The illustrations are the perfect fit for the text, too, adding bright, festive energy to every single page. This is exactly the kind of story that’s going to have kids giggling about Santa’s "tie-dye chin," and it’s a must-have for any family that wants to add a little humor to their holiday traditions.
